About

I am a retired police officer and have represented Scotland at both Police and Full International Level. Fly Fishing and Teaching Fly Fishing is my passion.

I was introduced to fishing at the age of 8 by my late father who himself was the Scottish National Champion in 1974. Since then I have gained over 50 years of angling experience all over the United Kingdom and Ireland. I now specialise in fly fishing for brown trout, rainbow trout, sea trout and salmon. As a qualified casting instructor I offer tuition to clients whether they are complete beginners, at intermediate level, or the experienced fly fisher. These lessons are undertaken in a happy, pleasant and informal manner where clients could be learning a “skill for life”.

I am one of a few qualified casting instructors who holds the prestigious Scottish Game Angling Instructors Certificate (SGAIC) for both single handed (Trout) and double handed (Salmon). These qualifications were gained through SGAIC under the umbrella of the Scottish Anglers National Associated (SANA). I hold current Emergency First Aid and Disclosure Certificates. In addition I am also a qualified UKCC Level 1 Coach - Game Angling. I also have full public liability insurance.

Since 2001 I became heavily involved in and have been fairly successful at competition fly fishing, loch style (drifting in a boat on large still waters). I have been fortunate enough to achieve the following :-

Capped four times for Scotland at full International level, winning two Gold Medals, Lough Conn (Ireland) , in 2010, and at the Lake of Menteith, (Scotland) 2015.

While representing the Scottish Police as an individual in the Police Sport (UK) Championship at Draycote Water (England), in 2015, I became both the Individual and British Police Champion. In addition I qualified to be a member of the British Police Team in 2016.

Three times Scottish Police Champion, 2004, 2012 and 2014.

Qualified to be a member of the Scottish Police Team on fourteen occasions, winning one European Gold Medal, Five Gold Medals and Seven Silver Medals at Police International level.

Holder of the Record Brown Trout, caught on fly at the Lake of Menteith in 2006, weighing 10lb 15oz).
